Meet your dog’s new best friend - Kate Cornell!

Kate has been with Boston Fetch since April of this year and her talent as a dog handler and good vibes as a coworker are being noticed. In fact, Kate has recently taken over Saturday management duties at Boston Fetch’s Roslindale office - good work, Kate! Since Kate is taking her talents down the Orange Line into Roslindale I thought we’d take a moment to get to know her a little bit better.

How was Boston Fetch lucky enough to find a caring dog handler like Kate?

In an odd way Boston Fetch can thank the Sam Adams brewery for bringing Kate’s talents our way. While working as a tour guide for the historic brewery Kate had a thought - What if I walked dogs around our beautiful, historic city instead of guiding humans through a dark, old brewery? Makes sense to us. About a nanosecond after that she was touring Jamaica Plain with the best coworkers and clients on the planet - dogs.

Has Kate always been so good at working with and caring for dogs and cats?

Short answer: Yes! Long answer: Also Yes! Kate grew up with a greyhound/lab mix by the name of Luke. A perfect mix of a greyhound's skepticism and a lab’s propensity for sweet-heartedness, Luke kept Kate’s family well entertained and Kate’s interest in the behavior and character of dog’s peaked. Spending a childhood surrounded by canines led her to her current dog, Willow, an energetic and loveable Beagle/Cattle Hound mix. In between her own dogs she always made time to play, sit, walk, and hang out with any dog that came her way.

Willow on the left and Luke on the right. On the Boston Fetch Dog Rating Scale both achieved a stunning 15 star rating (out of 6 stars)

And here’s something interesting: Kate’s dad actually studied canine behavior in college - I guess it’s in her genes!

What made Kate decide to join Boston Fetch as a Pet Care Professional?

Sure, dog’s are the best coworkers but they do struggle with maintaining budgets, facilitating a HR department, and payroll duties. Sometimes you need humans to make a fun and thriving work environment. Kate realized the same thing and came to Boston Fetch looking for a team of like minded pet lovers that would let her be the amazing dog handler she is without dealing with the hassle of being a gig worker for a large and impersonal tech firm. As an integral member of our team we encourage Kate to focus on our clients (both canine and human) while we take care of the rest.
