*EXCLUSIVE* An Interview with Smith - The Face (and Talent) of Boston Fetch

Smith, pictured here, looking like an angel sent from above

The blog division scored a big win this week when the face of Boston Fetch agreed to his first “SIT” down interview with our journalists following the successful marketing campaign that brought his confident and kind portrait into every home in Boston.

A golden haired whirlwind of infectious charm and incomparable talent, this magnificent retriever was destined for greatness - though he, a self proclaimed very humble and extremely good dog, would never tell you that. With his effortless demeanor and good ol’ fashion American folksiness, you and I know him as Smith - because that’s his name.  A hero amongst the dogs of Boston, we believe that in time this hero will become legend - and his story will be told here.

Howdy Smith, the handsome and timeless face of Boston Fetch. Thank you so much for taking the time to sit (Editor's note: Smith sat down at this exact moment) down with us today to discuss the landscape of the business world and how dogs make it so much better.

Yeah, sure, my pleasure. Hey, do you have a hot dog? I sat down earlier when you said “sit” and I’d like to be rewarded.

Ah, oh shoot, no I don’t…. But maybe the craft services table does, should I send our producer, Ray, to go look.

Yeah, I think you should.

Right, okay. Ray, go find some hot dogs please, thank you. Well, that actually leads us straight to our first question today, Smith, what’s your favorite treat as the face of Boston Fetch.

Hot dogs. That’s why I asked for one.

That makes perfect sense, you see -

Also the Salmon Chips from Polka Dog. Those are total bangers! Plus they’re locally produced from a small business native to Boston, just like Boston Fetch…actually can I get those instead of the hot dogs. Actually, no, get me both.

Smith, thinking big thoughts

Ray, you heard the dog - Salmon Chips too! While the spread is being prepared let’s move on to the next question. Smith, how do you like to relax and have fun after a long day as the face of Boston Fetch?

It’s not always easy for a dog that works as hard as I do to wind down after a productive day carrying the weight of an entire brand, but I have a very specific routine that helps. I like to move around the various chairs and beds in our house. Always in the same order. It starts with a light nap in my younger brother’s bedroom after he has left for school, moves through my parents bedroom for a midday snooze, the kitchen floor during meal times and ends on the floor in the living room to watch some late night TV.

Wow, that’s really specific.

Well, you know what they say, “Routine is the hot dogs of life.”

Do people say that?

No. Dogs do.

Moving along - Your roommates/parents, Sophie and Derrick, own and operate Boston Fetch. Who’s idea was it to make you the face of the service?

I have a very nice face. It was the obvious choice for all of us.

Short and to the point. Care to elaborate?

Nope.

*Smith stares intimidatingly at the interviewer*

*Interviewer takes a long, nervous pause…*

Message received. Next question. Given your popularity as Boston’s most iconic dog logo you must know a lot of good dogs. Tell us about some of the good dogs you know.

It’s hard to make friends when you're this famous. Honestly, I’m most comfortable with my pals I met before all the hype. Shout out to Huxley!

That makes sense -  I suppose a dog as recognizable as you must have to be careful who he lets into his inner circle.

You have no idea, man.

Looking good, Smith!

Now to our final question. As a role model to dogs across the country, do you have any words of inspiration for canines looking to be as successful as you in the business world?

*Smith takes a deep breath and with a look of consternation thinks hard on the question*

Woof.

Brilliant! Smith, thank you so much for your thoughtful thoughts and insightful musings. Your work is an invaluable addition to the small business community in Boston. We can’t wait to see what’s next for you.

Sure, yeah, hey - whatever happened to those hot dogs and Salmon chips?

Good question - Ray! Did you find those snacks? …Oh, dear…
